A CT scan (computed tomography) is a commonly used medical imaging exam that provides detailed images of the body. If you have an upcoming appointment, it’s normal to want to know what to expect during the exam.
At Radiméd, our team supports you every step of the way to make the experience as simple and well guided as possible.
Before the exam
Before your appointment, certain instructions may be necessary. See our article on preparing for a CT scan.
It is also important to note that this exam is performed by medical prescription only. To better understand why, read our article on getting a prescription for a CT scan.
When you arrive
On the day of your appointment:
- you will be welcomed by our team
- your information will be verified
- the instructions will be confirmed
You may be asked to wear a hospital gown and remove certain metal objects.
Positioning and image capture
You will be positioned on a table that moves inside the scanner.
During the exam:
- you will be asked to remain still
- simple instructions may be given (e.g., hold your breath for a few seconds)
The scanner takes images in just a few minutes.
Contrast injection (if needed)
In some cases, a contrast agent may be administered.
The injection is generally quick. A temporary warm sensation may sometimes be felt.
The team ensures that all conditions are met before the product is administered.
After the exam
Once the exam is complete:
- you can generally resume your usual activities
- the images are analyzed by a radiologist
- the results are sent to the referring physician
A quick, well-supervised exam
A CT scan is generally a quick exam. At Radiméd, every step is carefully supervised to ensure an experience tailored to your situation.
